Chicago Runoff Endorsements

ONE People's Campaign endorsed Toni Preckwinkle for Mayor because of her track record delivering on progressive values -- from raising the minimum wage to reducing the jail population and expanding health care access for the uninsured. In this race, record matters more than rhetoric. Toni supports lifting the ban on rent control and she has supports a holistic approach to increasing safety in Chicago -- from civilian oversight of the police, to increased investment in after school programming, stopping the cop academy and dismantling the gang database.

Matt Martin is running for alderman in the 47th Ward.

Andre Vasquez is running for alderman in the 40th Ward.

Marianne Lalonde is running for alderman in the 46th ward.

Marianne Lalonde

Endorsed by OPC.

Marianne Lalonde will be a champion for progressive solutions to the problems we face in the 46th ward. She is committed to preserving our current affordable housing units and fighting to make sure new developments include 30% affordable housing. She will fight for Uptown’s assets, like its public schools and small businesses. Finally, she is taking a holistic approach to increasing safety in the ward: investing in youth jobs programs and after school programming and creating civilian oversight of the police.

James Cappleman needs to go! He is loyal to corrupt machine politicians like Ed Burke, Joe Berrios, and Anita Alvarez. He has sold out to luxury developers and is no friend to affordable housing or those experiencing homelessness. Help us vote him out!

Matt Martin

Endorsed by OPC

Matt Martin will be a champion for policies that put people and the planet ahead of corporate profits in the 47th ward. With his strong track record as a civil rights attorney and expertise in the issue of police accountability, we are confident Matt will be an effective voice in city council speaking up for progressive issues.

Maria Hadden — Victory!

winner!

Joe Moore, alderman of the 49th Ward, is the chair of the housing committee in city council. He has blocked every meaningful piece of legislation to protect keep our city affordable for low-income and working class people. He has overseen the gentrification of Rogers Park and the displacement of thousands of people of color. Maria Hadden will be a champion for the issues OPC cares about and we are excited to support her campaign.

Other Wards

We voted to endorse Andre Vasquez in the 40th ward and incumbent Alderman Harry Osterman in the 48th ward (Victory!).

Andre shares our bold progressive vision for the city – one in which everyone has a home they can afford, everyone feels safe in their communities, and services like mental health centers and public schools are well-funded so that everyone has the resources they need to thrive. Andre is building a powerful campaign to beat 36-year-incumbent, Chicago Machine Democrat Pat O’Connor. Andre showed a sincere commitment to working with the community and strategizing with organizations like ours on the best solutions to problems facing the ward and the city.

In the 48th ward, we have a long track record of working with Alderman Harry Osterman. He has proven to be an ally and a leader on the issue of police accountability. Notably he has played a key role in advancing the Grassroots Alliance for Police Accountability ordinance. He has fought for and increased the resources for public schools in the ward. Additionally, he has been an advocate for affordable housing on the north side and throughout the city. We look forward to building on our relationship with him.
